That quiet, unassuming little conglomeration of cineastes and cinema bestowed its top honor, the Palm d’Or, on the Austrian film Amour, about a couple in the eighties coping with the wife’s declining health. Serious fare dominated the awards in a fete that was flashy as always but saw few accolades for American films. Here’s the roster of this year's major winners:
